Sands of design.

Having visited Dubai over a decade now, I didn’t think I’d be staying there for over two weeks and short of three. Too cold in Delhi for me and my young joints, Zoya and I planned the emirates trip in the month of January.

Respecting the concept of space, design and what comes along, I landed up at the design district on the very second day of my holiday courtesy Dior and the beauty team of UAE. Their office is in the stunning and roomy atmosphere of the fashionable district which holds a businesslike facade with interiors of purveying luxury. Knowing little that I would be coming back almost every alternate day, I walked into the  various and oddly welcoming capacity promoting local Emirati designers on a global platform.

Let me introduce you to Design District’s fashionable residents who lets u be a part of their grand scheme of things.

DIOR BEAUTY

Launching the Dior Forever cushion foundation which makes the skin luminous and long lasting. NOT a fan of cake(y) and skin oil producing makeup, this one provides good coverage whilst being light on the skin. Emmanuelle Geoffrey who works with Dior Middle-East flew in for great tutorials and quick and efficient lessons. Thanks for transforming our day and the light you shed.

ALL THINGS MOCHI

Jaipur collection by Mochi can be shopped  at http://allthingsmochi.com/ . The crop embroidered top worn on Zoya (bottom right) is one the first pieces designed by Ayah Tabari, the founder of the brand.

Uzbek Collection

The famous Central-Asian Suzani embroidery widely popular in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and other ares close by; the usual base is cotton with silk and cotton thread work. Shot at the beach at the Palm Jumeirah, with a distant background of the Burj Al Arab. The beach also makes a great haven for beings who like nothing but the sun and a Book/Colada in hand. Slightly deceiving, who’d think we are in Dubai, this could be any beach hut anywhere in the world.

AYESHA DEPALA

The Indian born and bred designer is known for ready to wear, bridal and couture. Her recently opened store at the design district transports you to a baroque Parisian maison! One of the best things I enjoy  with my job is role playing and getting to dress up as an act rather than display mundane character. The quirk in us left us dressing up as ballerinas and taking our casual cool to the streets below.

FAUX CONSULTANCY

Instinctively walking into the friendly yet professional forum which accommodates many leading designers of the UAE. Started by Firras Alwahabi in 2011, the company provides brand development, sales, marketing and communication services.

Zina settled for HOUSE OF NOMAD for their athletic yet leisurely clothing and separates. img_20170205_112254_440

Zoya went for ARWA AL BANAWI’S ” The Suitable Woman” look with a L’AFSHAR box clutch (hand made in Dubai).

Dubai you were amazing to the Terrible Twos.

The entire styling and direction is by Zoya and I. We work hard not just to dress up and look good but to create and be grander than ourselves; each day to inspire every girl out there to turn your lives around no matter what you do, love and live it!

ON a Jamaican note- Please go have a dance off and a drink at MISS LILY’S at the Sheraton on Sheikh Zayed Road. If you love HIP-HOP and a no nonsense crowd, head there and shake all you got!

Shukraan Habibis

Zina Singh, Always for Terrible Twos
